There’s something so precious and special about newborn babies that I really believe every parent should capture. A baby is considered “new” for such a short period. Their tiny features, movements, and expressions will continue to change and grow. By investing in beautiful newborn photos, you will have those memories to treasure forever.
New parents have so many questions about these sessions that I hope this answers all you need to know! If I’ve missed anything please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
HOW AND WHEN YOU SHOULD BOOK
It is never too early to book in for your newborn photography. As a guide, I advise parents to book in around the time of your 20 week scan. To secure your date simply send me an email and let me know when you are due. As these dates are never set in stone, we can book you in and allow flexibility around your date to reconfirm/reschedule if necessary.
BEST AGE AND WHY
Ideally, a newborn photography session should take place within the first two weeks of babies life and specifically, if at all possible, before they are ten days old. At this stage, babies are very sleepy and flexible meaning we can capture and create beautiful poses of their first few days of life.
After the first two weeks, babies are generally more awake and alert making the process a little more difficult to achieve. However, if your baby is over the 2 week mark we can still achieve beautiful images, it may just take a little longer and you may be more limited in what images you can capture.
If you feel newborn photos aren’t for you but you would still love images of your baby whilst they are still teeny tiny, you can also consider a baby photoshoot once your little one can sit. More details on my baby photoshoots can be found here.
WHERE WILL THE SESSIONS TAKE PLACE
Newborn photography sessions take place in my home studio in Manorhamilton, Co.Leitrim. My home-based photography studio is located approximately 30 minutes from Sligo Town, Enniskillen, Bundoran, Ballyshannon and Carrick On Shannon.
Being a new mum, I know how sacred the first two weeks are which is why I also offer at-home newborn photography sessions in which I can travel to your home to capture your new family in the most familiar and comfortable environment for you and baby. Newborn photography sessions in your home are available throughout Ireland.
WHAT TO WEAR
Clothing and styling is a very personal choice, so I would never want to be too prescriptive, but there are some general guidelines and recommendations that I can give. Patterns, logos, branding and dark or neon colours can easily date and draw attention away from the people in the photography. Neutral, earthy tones (creams, whites, beige, pastels, light greys etc.) photograph well and give a timeless feel to images.
My preference for your baby is to dress in a pure white long sleeve vest with a zip / button down sleep suit that makes it easy to undress them without disturbing or upsetting them.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE SESSION
During your session, we will work through various positions making sure we capture baby, parents, siblings and grandparents in a variety of combinations allowing plenty of time in between for feeding, changing and cuddling.
While your baby is asleep, I’ll capture their little features through different poses – giving you a chance to have a break and admire what you’ve made!
My studio has a safe and fully stocked changing area and seating to allow you to care for and nurse baby.
IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD BRING WITH ME?
I always advise parents to bring plenty of milk if you are bottle feeding. A dummy is also a must – even if your little one isn’t taking a pacifier, it’s a great tool for soothing them to sleep during their photoshoot.
Wipes and hand sanitiser are all available in my studio, so in terms of changing all you will need are some nappies.
WHEN WILL MY PHOTOS BE READY
I aim to deliver your online gallery within two weeks from the day of your shoot.
